Midget A Queens in tough vs. CrunchDec. 16--The OPG Midget A Queens returned from a snow-filled road trip in Grand Rapids, Minn., over the weekend dropping all three games they played to a powerful Minnesota Crunch under-19 squad.
In game one played on Dec. 12 they fell by a 7-0 score and were bounced 7-1 the following evening with Nicole Prevett scoring the lone goal for Thunder Bay.
Bouncing back in Sunday's afternoon's finale the Queens battled hard losing a hard-fought decision by a score of 2-1.
Bree Hollinsworth scored for the midget A side in that one.
The Queens will have a re-match with the Crunch in January who will travel to Thunder Bay in January to compete in the Can-Am Cup.
Next up on the tournament schedule for the Midget A Queens is the Women's Silverstick Tournament in Sarnia, Ont., which goes Feb. 6-10.
Gold medal for Midget A Queens at Cake Eaters ClassicDec. 1--The OPG Midget A Queens competed in the Cake Eaters Classic in Edina, Minn., this past weekend and came home with the gold medal.
In their tournament opener they skated to a 4-1 victory over Edina Grenn.
Amber Butler paced the Queens attack scoring twice while singles went Katie Friday and Danna Fullum.
Cassandra Foglia only allowed a single goal in picking up the win in net.
Game two saw Thunder Bay explode as they bounced Centennial by a 15-1 score.
In the club's third match the Midget A Queens faced their greatest competition of the weekend when they played Brookings where they fell 2-1.
Thunder Bay's only goal was scored by Friday on as assist by Megan Stajkowski with Carlie Pennock suffering the defeat in net.
The fourth game was played early Sunday morning against Eden Prairie with the Midget A Queens rollig to a 7-1 triumph.
Stajkowski tallied twice in the win while Hayley Kitt, Nicole Salminen, Bree Hollinsworth, Butler and Fullum adding the others.
Moving on to the championship game they met Brookings once again, but turned the tables skating to a hard-fought 1-0 win.
Fullum scoring the only goal in the game assisted by Salminen while Pennock posted the shut-out in net.
Next up for the Midget A Queens sees them headed to Grand Rapids, Minn., for an exhibition series in mid-December.
Bronze medal at Ice Breaker CupNov. 18--The Thunder Bay Midget A Queens returned home from the Ice Breaker Cup tournament in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., over the weekend coming away with the bronze medal.
Game one saw the Queens get past Marathon 4-1 with goals coming from Danna Fullum, Amber Butler and Renee Parr.
In game two they fell 5-2 to a team from Windsor with Kelsey Ham and Megan Stajkowski scoring for Thunder Bay.
Round robin play wrapped up in their third contest as they skated to 2-2 draw against the host Sault Ste. Marie Wildcats.
The Queens then met Sault Ste. Marie in the semifinal on Sunday monring, but suffered a 3-0 defeat.
They would bounce back however in the bronze medal contest doubling up Marathon 6-3.
Renee Parr and Katie Friday both tallied twice in the victory and while Ham and Butler added singles.
The Midget A Queens have two out of town trip coming up as they travel to Edina, Minn., for the Cake Eaters Classic Nov. 28-30 and will also be participating in an exhibtion series in mid-December in Grand Rapids, Mich.
