Pair of Queens moving on to play university hockey
Henry to St. Scholastica, Bogacki to York
June 14 -- As captain of the Thunder Bay Sportop Queens, Jana Henry helped lead her club to an Esso Cup national female midget hockey championship in April.
Now she'll be bringing her skill and leadership qualities with her south of the border having committed to start playing U.S. collegiate hockey in the fall at St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn.
It was announced this past week that Henry is part of the Saints inaugural recruiting class that will begin their first year competing in the women's division of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
The versatile forward is the first player from Ontario on the roster that also features skaters from each of the four western Canadian provinces as well as four U.S. states.
The Saints will play their first-ever game Nov. 5 in Duluth when they host Augsburg College.
Meanwhile, the Queens organization can also boast another member of their alumna moving on to participate at a higher level as the York University Lions women's hockey team of the OUA recently announced that Thunder Bay's Jessalyn Bogacki has committed to attend the school and play for the team.
After graduating from the Queens program, Bogacki went on to tend goal for the Mississauga Chiefs of the Provincial Women's Hockey League this past season.
There the 19-year-old netminder registered an impressive 12-1-3 record along with four shutouts finishing with a stingy 1.82 goals-against average along with a save percentage of .908.
In the playoffs she was equally solid backstopping her side all the way to the PWHL final where they dropped a close 2-1 decision to the Toronto Aeros who were led by another ex-Queen in Schreiber's Jenna McParland.
