The Mallon’s Play It Again Sports U18AA Thunder Bay Queens have returned home from the North American Showcase with gold! They would knock off the host Durham West Lightning to capture the U18AA North American Showcase Championship. Addison Chown opened the scoring with a great net drive to bang home a Keira Stokaluk rebound. Bridget Cameron would add to the lead snapping a shot over the glove of the goaltender to make it 2-0. Brooklyn Voortman would seal the game with an empty net bar down goal to make the final 3-0. Alex Young was the best penalty killer on the team in the championship game and was solid in net earning the shutout.

The invitational tournament boasts some of the top teams from Saskatchewan, New York, Manitoba, New Jersey, Ontario, and California. The Queens would go undefeated in the round robin portion with a 3-0 win against Central York, a 3-1 win against Saugeen-Maitland, a 2-0 win against Stockton, California and a 3-3 tie against Clarington to finish first in their division. In the semi-final game, they would knock off the #1 team in Ontario, the Stratford Aces, 3-0, with another shutout performance by Abby Wills.

The coaching staff credits the dominant performance with solid goaltending, great defensive play, and a commitment to a game plan. The U18AA Queen’s team and staff are also extremely thankful on this Thanksgiving weekend to the Thunder Bay Minor Hockey Association, the Westfort Maroons U15AA team, the Norwest Stars U15AA team and the Thunder Bay Kings U15AAA team for providing us with exhibition games before the tournament.

Next, the Mallon’s Play It Again Sports U18AA Thunder Bay Queens will be competing at the 2023 Tradition NIT, in Blaine, MN - October 20-22, 2023.
