Queens edged in OT in Stoney Creek Showcase opener

STONEY CREEK, Ont. – A Kristen Kennedy goal with 2:29 to go in overtime proved to be only tally of the game as the Thunder Bay Sportop midget AA Queens dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to the London Devilettes Friday in Day 1 play at the 10th annual Stoney Creek Sabres Showcase tournament.

Bailey Chenier faced 18 shots in net for the Queens, who were held off the score sheet in their season opener by London goaltender Breanna Thomson as the Devilettes stopper made 17 saves overall.

Thunder Bay will look to get into the win column with their second game of the day as they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 5:40 p.m.

There are a total of 64 teams from across Canada and the U.S. competing in the three-day event, which goes through Sunday.

Round robin action for the Queens then concludes Saturday at 10:35 a.m. vs. the Leaside Wildcats.
