Queens fall in SCS Showcase quarter-final

STONEY CREEK, Ont. – Ghini Sy stopped all 16 shots she faced to help backstop the AAA West Coast Avalanche of B.C. to a 4-0 victory over the Thunder Bay Sportop midget AA Queens Sunday in quarter-final action at the 10th annual Sabres Showcase tournament in Stoney Creek, Ont.

Jessie Sanghe notched the only goal her side would need three minutes into the contest to send the Avalanche on their way.

West Coast then tacked on three more tallies in the middle session to take control, including a pair by Shannon Morris-Reade. Kiara Machry supplied the other.

There was no scoring in the third.

Thunder Bay was outshot 17-16 overall in the contest with Bailey Chenier suffering the loss, seeing two periods of action, while Fayth Chambers was spotless in relief in playing the final frame.
