Midget A Queens victorious in CAN/AM opener
INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn. – The Thunder Bay midget A Queens are off to a good start at the Rainy River Community College CAN/AM Invitational in International Falls, Minn. after skating to a 5-1 victory over the Confederation College Thunderhawks in their opening game at the eight-team event Friday.
The Queens jumped out to 3-0 lead after one period of play on goals by Montana Russo, Madeline Browczuk and Kristin Martin.
Whitney Scott would make it 4-0 in the middle session before Queens’ alumna Amber Butler got the Thunderhawks on the board before the second stanza was complete.
Martin then rounded out the scoring in the third to cap off a three-point game.
Browczuk too had three points to help pace the team offensively.
Cameron Ivall picked up the win in net for the Queens making 17 saves in a contest that saw her side fire 35 shots on the Con College net.
They will return to game action at 10 a.m. Saturday as they take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats club team.
