AA Queens fall in respective finales

STONEY CREEK, Ont. – Both the RBC Dominion Securities bantam AA and Sportop midget AA Queens sides dropped their respective final games Sunday against elite competition.

The bantam AAs were blanked 3-0 by Detroit Little Caesars at the Stoney Creek Sabres AA tournament in southern Ontario while the midget AA club fell 4-1 to the St. Mary’s Academy Flames of Winning in a contest held at Fort William First Nation Arena.

Despite outshooting Little Caesars 16-15 they could not solve the Detroit netminder with Josée Robinson suffering the loss for Thunder Bay.

They finished the 24-team tourney with a 2-2-1 record in five games.

Next up for the bantam AA Queens will be a three-game series Oct. 17-18 vs. Team Wisconsin under-14 in Chippewa Falls, Wis.

As for the Sportop Queens, they saw the highly-touted Flames complete the sweep of a three-game series after taking the opening two match-ups by narrow margins Saturday.

In Sunday’s affair Brooke Herman notched the lone goal for her side in defeat with assists going to Briana Prete and Emilie Varrin.

Aden Johnson went the distance between the pipes for Thunder Bay.

The midget AA squad’s next out of town event will be the Two Nations Prep Series Oct. 23-25 in Detroit, Mich.
