Queens fall in tournament openers
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay RBC Dominion Securities bantam AA Queens and their peewee counterparts each dropped their opening games in tournament play in Minnesota Friday.
The bantam AA side fell 4-1 to Edina Green at the Prelude to the Playoffs tourney in Eden Prairie while the peewee were blanked 3-0 by the host Osseo Maple Grove Orioles at the Cabin Fever Classic.
Thunder Bay got off to a good start against Edina getting the game’s opening goal from Mackenzie Lehto with Hannah Leung and Brenna Nicol picking up assists on the marker.
Edina tied it in the final minute of the first on the power play then got two more in the second to go up 3-1.
They then added one more in the third, while up a player, to round out the scoring.
The Queens were outshot 23-10 overall with Paige Wilson making 19 saves in defeat.
Two more tilts are one the bantams slate Saturday starting with a 12:45 p.m. encounter with Osseo-Maple Grove before finishing up with an 8 p.m. match-up vs. the North Wright County River Hawks.
The peewees will also play twice Saturday, squaring off against the Alexandria Cardinals 10:15 a.m. before finishing up the day vs. North Wright County at 4:45 p.m.
