Bantam AA Queens off to Stoney Creek Showcase

STONEY CREEK, Ont. – With their own version of the World Cup of Hockey the Thunder Bay bantam AA Queens will venture to southern Ontario this weekend to take part in the 8th Annual Stoney Creek Sabres bantam AA Showcase, which runs Friday through Sunday.

Game action for Thunder Bay begins Friday at 12:15 p.m. when they take on the Aurora Panthers.

Later in the day the Whitby Wolves will provide the opposition in a contest that gets underway at 6:10 p.m.

Two more tilts will be on the Queens’ slate Saturday as they face-off against the Durham West Lightning at 12:15 before finishing off round robin play at 5:55 p.m. vs. the Buffalo Bisons.

Further games will be based on the results of those four contests.

A total of 46 bantam AA teams from across Canada and the U.S. will be taking part in Stoney Creek.

A LOOK AT THE BANTAM AA QUEENS

Returning AA Queens veterans, in team captain Brenna Nicol and assistant captain Kailey Swerhun, will lead the team into this very competitive and high profile tournament.

Bantam A Queens graduates Mikaela Chimbakis, Sibley Duckert, Sarah Grieve and Kayla Stein will provide further experience up front and will provide much needed leadership to the club that boasts nine first-year players.

The rookie forwards are led by sniper Kendra Fortin from Westfort Rangers AA program, peewee AA championship team member Olivia Nicholl and 2016 Peewee Queens MVP and leading scorer Alexis Paddington.

The defence will be anchored by the talented and smooth skating assistant captain Sydney White, a graduate of the peewee Kings program. Former bantam 'A' Queens defenceman Caitlyn McGuire will be a force on the back end with rookie rearguard Hope Bobyk-Goheen, Julia Buchan, Bella Carangi and Desiree Kamande, all graduates of the peewee Queens programs.

In net, the tandem of Camryn Williams and Lindsay Humeniuk will backstop the club.
