Bantam AA Queens  start 1-1 at Stoney Creek Showcase

STONEY CREEK, Ont. – Thunder Bay bantam AA Queens picked up a win and suffered a loss Friday in their opening two games at the 8th Annual Stoney Creek bantam AA Showcase edging the Aurora Panthers 2-1 before being bounced 5-0 by the Whitby Wolves.

In the match-up vs. Aurora, Thunder Bay rode the standout goaltending of Lindsay Humeniuk as she stopped 28 of the 29 shots she faced to record the victory.

Action in the opening period saw it go scoreless with the Queens successfully killing off three penalties.

Heading into the second, Alexis Paddington tipped in a Sydney White point shot off a nice feed from Kendra Fortin.

Later in the frame, Brenna Nicol sprung Sarah Grieve on a breakaway, who made no mistake as she buried her attempt high glove side on the Aurora netminder.

The Panthers got one back early in the third and had three later power plays, but Humeniuk stood tall and shut the door the rest of the way to pick up the well-deserved victory

In the club’s second contest of the day, it was all Whitby who skated to the one-sided decision.

The Wolves opened the scoring with just under a minute left in the first.

Queens battled back in the second with many scoring chances but couldn't finish.

Whitby poured it on in the third scoring four goals in six minutes to secure the victory.

Camryn Williams suffered the loss in net.

The Queens return to game action Saturday as they face-off against the Durham West Lightning at 12:15 before finishing off round robin play at 5:55 p.m. vs. the Buffalo Bisons.
