Win and loss for Queens Saturday at Stoney Creek Showcase
STONEY CREEK, Ont. – Thunder Bay bantam AA Queens were one both ends of a shutout Saturday at the 8th Annual Stoney Creek Sabres Showcase suffering a 3-0 setback to the Durham West Lightning before rebounding to blank the Buffalo Bisons 6-0.
The Pickering, Ont.,-based Lightning struck first on a goal mouth scramble late in the opening period on Lindsay Humeniuk.
Durham added a marker in each of the final two periods to round out the scoring and outshot Thunder Bay 14-7 overall.
Against Buffalo the Queens did everything but score in the first period, out chancing the Bisons by a 13-1 count on the shot clock.
Heading into the middle stanza Alexis Paddington got the Queens on the board as she broke in, split the defence and roofed a backhand into the top of the net.
Thunder Bay poured it on from there adding five more markers to secure the victory.
Olivia Nichol supplied a pair of goals while Sibley Duckert, Brenna Nicol and Kayla Stein added singles.
Sydney White had a solid defensive game in the win and also contributed three assists.
Camryn Williams picked up the shutout for the Queens in that one.
Thunder Bay will wrap-up the tournament Sunday at 10:35 a.m. against Markham-Stouffville Stars.
