Sportop Queens improve to 2-0 in Brampton with 2nd shutout

BRAMPTON, Ont. – The Thunder Bay Sportop midget AA Queens got a pair of goals from Lucy Newman along with a 22-save shutout from Josée Robinson to help them blank the Peterborough Ice Kats 3-0 Friday evening in 2 Nations College Prep Series play in Brampton, Ont.

Newman scored unassisted early in the contest to send the Queens on their way before she finished off a Briana Prete feed 4:36 into the middle session to put them up by two.

It stayed 2-0 until the late going when Vanessa Nicholl iced it with an empty netter with 24 seconds to go.

Amanda Pages picked up an assist on the night’s final marker.

Thunder Bay outshot Peterborough 28-22 in the contest.

The Queens are now 2-0 at the event after shutting out Team Illinois 1-0 earlier in the day.

The club returns to the ice twice Saturday beginning with a 12:15 p.m. match-up vs. the Chicago Young Americans before wrapping up the round robin at 6:30 p.m. against the Cambridge Roadrunners.
