Midget A Queens sweep 3-game set in Dryden

DRYDEN, Ont. – The Thunder Bay Toppers Pizza midget A Queens have returned home with a three-game road sweep of the Dryden Eagles High School side over the weekend.

Thunder Bay won 4-1 and 3-0 Saturday before rolling to a 10-2 triumph Sunday.

In the series opener, it was scoreless after the first period, but the Queens got on the board in the middle session on a Cassandra Caragni effort.

Dryden’s Leah Balla tied it midway through the stanza, but the midget A side countered with the eventual game-winner from Caitlyn Olinski with 2:50 to go.

They then got some insurance from Breanna Veneruz and Jamie Ricklef in the third to round out the scoring.

Anjelina Badanai picked up the win in net.

Game 2 of the day saw Cameron Ivall post the shutout as Thunder Bay blanked Dryden.

Carly Hennessey, Caragni and Jessie Scott notched the markers in the victory.

The Queens then capped off the weekend with an impressive performance Sunday.

Caragni once again played a big role in the one-sided decision as she notched a hat trick and added an assist for a four-point day.

Olinski and MacKenzie Lehto chipped in with two tallies apiece while Veneruz, Jessie Page and Madisonlee Fullum supplied singles.

Veneruz, Ricklef and Hennessey had two assists each.

Badanai picked up her second win of the series for Thunder Bay.

Cali Lappage and Taliah Williams scored for the Eagles.

The midget A Queens will be hosting the Minnesota Revolution under-19 team later in the month for two games.

Game 1 goes Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Norwest Arena before finishing up on Jan. 29 at 8:30 a.m. at Neebing Arena.

The two sides will also meet March 4-5 in Duluth, Minn.
