Toppers Midget A Queens drops first 2 at CAN/AM Cup

MADISON, Wis. – The Thunder Bay Toppers Pizza midget A Queens are off to a 0-2 start after Day 1 play at the CAN/AM Cup in Madison, Wis.

The began with a narrow 2-1 setback against the Palmer Pioneers of Alaska Friday before being blanked 3-0 by the host Madison Capitols in their second game of the day.

It was a good start for the Queens against the Pioneers as Brooke Herman staked her side to the lead 12 minutes into the contest on an assist from Jamie Ricklefs.

Palmer would notch the equalizer in the middle session that picked up the game-winner with 2:05 remaining in regulation to pull out the victory.

Thunder Bay did out shoot the Alaskans 22-12 in the contest with Cameron Ivall suffering the setback in goal for the Queens.

In the match-up with Madison, the Capitols tallied once on the power play in both the first and second stanza and added another at even strength in the middle frame to secure the victory.

Suzette Faucher made 18 saves to post the shutout for Madison while Ivall faced 25 shots in defeat.

Saturday has Thunder Bay facing off with the Dallas Stars Elite at noon before concluding action vs. Team Illinois at 9 p.m.
