Kunnas with 4, Johnson with Shutout in Shattuck

FARIBAULT, MN – The Sportop Midget AA Queens got off to a great start in this weekend’s tournament at Shattuck St. Mary’s Girls Hockey Jamboree against their opening, Pilot Mound.

Kaylee Grosjean would get things started for Thunder Bay, opening the scoring a powerplay goal late in the first on a setup by Lucy Newman and Ellen Svane. Svane, on her next shift, would then setup Molly Kunnas to give the Queens a 2-goal lead after one.

The Queens would equal their output in the second on a goal by Jamie Ricklefs and a powerplay goal from Kunnas. Molly Kunnas completed the hattrick early in the third period with another powerplay goal. Victoria Darosa potted a late goal to make it 6-0 for the Sportop Queens before Kunnas would add a fourth goal to her total on the night. Goaltender Aden Johnson stopped everything thrown at her earning her third straight shutout stretching back to the Caribou Classic.

On Saturday, the Queens take on Pembina at 9:00am and Westman at 5:00pm. The results of these games will determine their Sunday matchup and time.
