Bantam A Queens Capture All American Silver

BLAINE, MN – After shutting out their first two opponents in the All American Girls’ Hockey Tournament, the Thunder Bay Bantam A Queens looked to keep their perfect streak intact Saturday going into the semi-final against Champlin Park. A tightly contested first period nearly went scoreless until defenceman Brooklyn Etreni worked the puck up to Alessia Ricciardi late in the period who’d setup Haley Wrigley for the go-ahead goal in the last minute of the period. The Queens would put their goaltender Camyrn Williams to the test amassing 20 minutes in penalties this game but Williams and her penalty killers stopped all 10 powerplays by Champlin Park en route to a slim 1-0 win and a birth in the Championship game.

While the Queens were able to boast a 3-0 record, outscoring their opponents 6-0, they met up with their biggest challenge yet in the Proctor Hermantown Mirage who also had a perfect record but dwarfed their opponents on the scoreboard 29-1 through three games. Suffice to say, their offence was no mirage. The Queens would get on the board first on a goal by Darbie Mattson less than three minutes in but the Mirage would reply with three straight goals in the first period to take a 3-1 lead. Hermantown would manage another goal in each of the second and third periods taking the Championship game 5-1.

The Bantam A Queens leave Minnesota with silver medals and a 3-1 record with all three victories being shutouts.
