Peewee Queens Capture Bronze in Blaine

BLAINE, MN – A 2-1 record through Friday and Saturday was enough to put the Thunder Bay Peewee Queens into the semifinals on Championship Sunday of the Centennial Girls Super Chill Tournament against the host Centennial Cougars. Thunder Bay got onto the board first on a goal by Jenna Jackson but the Cougars tied the game back up in the second. The 1-1 tie held until the end of regulation giving way to overtime where Centennial would score in the final two minutes to take the game. A tough loss but the bronze medal was still up for grabs as well as a chance to avenge a 2-1 loss at the hands of Blaine the day before.

In the 12U Bronze medal game, Kaiya Kamande opened scoring for the Queens early in the first but Blaine would tie the game up early in the second. Near the halfway point, Bridget Cameron would sink the go-ahead goal and then about a minute later Akira Tatebe would get an insurance marker to put the Queens up 3-1 after two. In the third period it was all Queens as Ella Mannila scored in the first minute of play and Cameron would add her second of the game to give Thunder Bay a commanding 5-1 win and the bronze medal.
