Sportop Queens Fall to Chicago, Shutout New England

WASHINGTON, DC — The Sportop Midget AA Queens got a rough start on Sunday at the JWHL Challenge Cup in Washington, DC against the Chicago Young Americans. Lucy Newman managed a first period goal for the Queens but that would be the only offence they put up as Chicago routed Thunder Bay 5-1.

Later on the Queens would get their second matchup of the day against New England HC. Kaylee Grosjean got the ball rolling with an powerplay goal early in the first. Vanessa Nicholl would add to the lead just 13 seconds into the second period. Goalie Makenna Burke held the two goal lead for Thunder Bay until Ellen Svane potted a goal with 27 seconds left in the period. Victoria Darosa notched one last goal in the final frame and Burke stopped everything shot towards the Queens goal earning the 4-0 shutout.

Continuing onto Monday, the Queens take on the Washington Pride tomorrow at 8:50 am.
