Williams Shuts Out Flamborough

VAUGHAN, ON — The Gridlink Midget A Queens opened up their OWHA Provincials Championship bid against the Flamborough Falcons on Friday morning.

The Queens opened the scoring after Caitlin Olinski drop-passed to Olivia Nicholl who’d backhand the puck five-hole on the Falcons netminder. It was an otherwise tightly checked period as both teams only managed 3 shots aside.

Things opened up in the second period as Flamborough outshot the Queens 8-6. Sarah Grieve looked to extend the Queens lead on the powerplay but hit the post and goalie Camryn Williams would rob a Falcons one-timer from the slot with 6 seconds left.

In the third, Gaby Andreacchi scored an incredible goal after undressing both defencemen and then pulling the puck to the forehand to rip the puck past Flamborough’s goalie, putting the Queens up 2-0. Then just 1:37 later, Julia Buchan carried the puck up the wall before feeding Jada Leblanc posted at the right face-off dot. Leblanc sent a laser off the far post an in to give the Queens a 3-0 lead.

Camryn Williams stopped all 17 shots she faced en route to a 3-0 shutout of the Flamborough Falcons.

Friday evening, the Midget As meet up with top ranked Carlington Flames but would find themselves on the wrong end of a shutout as they lost a hard fought 1-0 game.

The Midget As will put their 1-1-0 record up against the London Devilettes on Saturday morning at 8:00am before learning their playoff fate.
