Johnston Scores and Assists in Win Over London

VAUGHAN, ON — The Gridlink Midget A Queens went 1-1-0 on Friday, producing a shutout and then falling victim to being shutout. Saturday morning marked their final round robin game against the London Devilettes.

Late in the first period, Emma Johnston broken open the scoring after beating three defenders and then firing a shot top corner glove side past the London netminder. Sibley Duckert extended the lead in the second after following up her own rebound and scoring. Late in the second, on a Queens powerplay, Julia Buchan worked the puck to Gaby Andreacchi who’d walk the puck off the half-wall on her backhand and put a shot low far side past the Devilettes’ goalie. 3-0 after two.

London managed to get one goal back off a hard slap shot from the top of the circle. London had a strong push late but goalie Camryn Williams made all the big stops, including a big shoulder save off a Devilette who split the D to come in all alone. 3-1 final.

The 2-1-0 finish with a goal differential of +4 put the Midget As at 1st in their pool. Other results within the Midget A division will determine their next opponent who'll they'll face for a chance to make it into the Quarterfinals.
