Fortin Commits to Bemidji State for 2021-22

THUNDER BAY, ON — Sportop Midget AA Queens Defenceman Kendra Fortin has committed to Bemidji State University for the 2021-22 season. “When I was 12 I went with my brother's Kings team to tour the rink of Bemidji State and have loved it ever since.” Fortin explained, “I had the opportunity to return to Bemidji this past Tuesday for an official visit to see the campus and rink once again. Everything was just like I remembered it; the campus is right on the lake along with the rink, everyone around is very welcoming and the community seems to be very passionate about all the sports teams. Everything about the small town reminds me of home and I couldn’t ask for a better place to spend my future four years.”

Kendra, who played for the Queens as a 1st year Peewee, both years of Bantam AA and a year of Midget AA this past season, credits the Thunder Bay Queens with developing as a player and a person, "Queens has for sure been a big part of my life, from dealing with adversity, to learning that time management is a key tool in the real world (thanks Crystal Tustian), to pushing myself to my limits, and to becoming not only life long friends but sisters to all my past and present teammates. My teammates are for sure the reason I have enjoyed playing in this program and I look forward to every new season. My coaches are also a big part of this program, and I can’t thank them enough for all they do.”

Kendra also credits her trainer Bradey Fox, who she’s worked with for over 6 years, her parents and extended family for their support and especially thanks her biggest role model, her brother, Zach Fortin, who this past season played his first season in the QMJHL. “Zach has been the person I’ve looked up to since I was just starting to walk, watching him grow as a person and as a hockey player has pushed me to do the same. I can’t thank everyone enough for everything they’ve done to get me to this point so far.”
