THUNDER BAY, ON — After rocking their opponents by a combined score of 15-1 in their first two games, the Sportop Midget AA Queens found some tough competition Saturday morning in the form of the LU Thunderwolves. The Queens scored just 4:45 into the game after Olivia Nicholl fed a pass to Darbie Mattson who’d score. 1-0 after one. In the second, Kailey Swerhun got on the game sheet with goal to extend the lead to two. The Thunderwolves pressed to get back into the game but netminder Reese Keating kept her shutout streak going to two games as she helped the Midget AA blank the Thunderwolves 2-0.

That evening, the AAs put their sparkling record up against the Thunder Bay Fury. The Queens exploded in the first with four goals coming from Reese Coffey, Olivia Nicholl and pair from Kailey Swerhun. Brenna Nicol drew 3 assists in the period. Nicol also scored the 5th and final goal of the game in a 5-0 shutout win for Mykaila George

Meanwhile, the 0-1-1 Gridlink Midget A Queens looked to get into the win column, starting their Saturday against the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints. After the Saints scored the only goal in the first period, Alessia Ricciardi tied the game (Victoria Arnone drew an assist) but the Saints regained the lead just 82 seconds later. Both team’s goalies stood tall as the game ended 2-1 for St. Thomas.

Saturday evening, the Midget As still sought that elusive “W” and looked to take it out on the Thunderhawks. Emma Johnston got things rolling with the sole first period goal and Sidney Hiscox extended the lead in the second, sniping after being setup by Mylee Zechner and Amber Yesno-Linklater on the play. Goalie Camryn Williams defended the 2-0 lead and got some run support as Johnston would pot her second of the game and then in a 42-second span Ricciardi setup Yesno-Linklater for the Queens fourth goal and then also setup Johnston for her hattrick goal and to put the Queens up 5-0 (Caitlyn McGuire and Sidney Hiscox also were awarded with helpers). 5-0 final.

On Sunday, the Midget AAs make it into the final four. Schedule is currently TBD.
