Gridlink Atom Queens make Quarter-Finals

THUNDER BAY, ON — The Bantam A Queens got an early start on Saturday, taking on the Elks 82s Peewee AA at 8:00am who’d score a goal in the first, another in the second and one more in the third before the Queens struck back with one of their own as Alexis Prepp and Paige Fucile setup Grace Fitzpatrick to make it 3-1 but the Elks would get that back, winning the game 4-1. The Bantam As got an afternoon game against Hearst but it’d be another lopsided loss, dropping this one 6-1, ending their tournament with a 0-4 record. Chloe Allam got the lone goal.

The Strasser & Lang Peewee Queens were also up early taking on the KC Sabres but would drop the game 5-0, giving them an 0-4 record on the weekend.

Over to the Atom A division where the Gridlink Atom Queens looked to keep their undefeated record going against the host Westfort Rangers. Kaelyn Stansell, Paetyn Stansell and Ava Hrubeniuk opened the scoring with a goal each in the first giving their team an early 3-0 lead. Olivia Vinet potted an early second period goal while Paetyn Stansell potted her second of the game to make it 5-0. In the third, Madelynn Moore would finish it up with one last goal for a decisive 6-0 victory.

Last game before the playoff rounds, the Atoms had one more test against the KC Knights. KC kept the Queens off the scoreboard in the first but Ava Hrubeniuk finally converted one of their chances in the second on a play setup by Shayla Stokaluk and Kaelyn Stansell. 1-0 going into the third. Just 26 apart, the Queens would make it a 3-0 game after Moore and Danica Wilson setup Vinet and then Moore and Vinet would setup Vienna Minnela. Vinet would also score her second goal (and third point) of the game in a 4-0 final which matches the Queens’ 4-0 record.

Looking at Sunday, the Peewees' and Bantam As’ weekends are done but the Gridlink Atom Queens will start the first of a possible three games with an 8:00am matchup against the Neebing Hawks at TC1. If they win, they’ll play again at 11:15 at FN2 for the chance to play in the Championship game 2:30pm at FN1.
