Sportop Queens Take On Ottawa 67s

WINNIPEG, MB — The Sportop Midget AA Queens finished up the Junior Women’s Hockey League Weekend Invitational with one last game against the Ottawa 67s. Both goalies went perfect through the first period with the first goal of the game not coming until late in the second. Alexis Paddington and Brenna Nicol battled for a puck along the wall and Paddington was able to walk out with the puck into the slot and backhand a shot up high past the Ottawa goalie. 1-0 after two.

In the third, the 67s potted three straight goals to go up 3-1. Less than a minute after their third goal though, a dumped-in puck would be stopped behind the Ottawa net by their goalie. Sibley Duckert pounced on the opportunity muscling a defenceman off the puck and firing the puck from behind the goal line into the back of the goalie’s leg and into the net to cut the lead to one. Unfortunately, that’s as close as the Queens would get to coming back as the Ottawa 67s would add two more late goals, dropping the Queens by a score of 5-2.

All in all a very good weekend for the Midget AAs, a younger team at the tournament, going 2-2 in four very close games.
