Bantam AAs at 2 Nations Cup

BRAMPTON, ON — The Bantam AA Queens are off to great start in the Two nations prep series tournament in Brampton, Ontario this weekend.

In game one, the Queens faced the Guelph Jr Gryphons. After a scoreless first period, the Queens blew the game open in the second period by controlling most of the play and scoring three unanswered goals. Bridget Cameron opened the scoring off of a great faceoff play from Rhae Thomas with assists going to Makara Magbanua and Avery Olenik. Katie Lacosse would make it 2-0 finishing off a nice three-way passing play from a down low cycle with  assists going to Riah Compardo and Joanna Martinsen. Taylee Marks would round out the scoring burying a wrist shot from the point. Akira Tatebe and Bridget Cameron would add helpers on the goal. Abby Wills earned the shutout  in net stopping 16 shots while the Queens peppered the Gryphons netminder with 28 shots.

In game two on the day, the Queens were in tough, facing a Hamilton Hawks team playing their only game of the day. Katy Lacosse would start the scoring burying a power play marker with 4 seconds left in the first period to give the queens a 1-0 lead. Caryss Kehl and Riah Compardo would have assists on the goal.

Presley Brohm stood tall in the second period making a number of big saves as the fresher Hawks team took the momentum over. After a much needed second period intermission break, the Queens were able to regroup, find their legs, and take over the third period by tightening up defensively and playing textbook hockey to protect their lead. It paid off as Bridget Cameron would notch a power play marker half way through the 3rd period that would be the insurance goal they needed. Joanna Martinsen had  the lone assist on the goal. Presley Brohm earned the shutout. Queens were outshot 22-21 in the game.

On Saturday, the Bantam AA Queens took on the Central York Panthers with an opportunity to get a bye straight into the Quarter-Finals on Sunday. Unfortunately, not much of anything went their way as they lost 5-0. So without the bye, instead of having Saturday night off, the Queens took on the Barrie Sharks. This matchup did not go much better for the Queens as they lost 2-0, ending their tournament weekend.
