Queens vs Queens at Robins Tournament

THUNDER BAY, ON — The Strasser & Lang Peewee Queens and Bantam A Queens are both partaking in the Robin’s Tournament this weekend, both competing in the Peewee AA division.

The Peewees got a Thursday start versus the Current River Comets. Both sides scored an early goal as Kade Hockenhull scored for the Comets and Brynn Hannula tied it up just 1:08 later. Easton Taylor would put Current River up 2-1 for the period. In the second, Current River notched 3 goals as Taylor scored again, Evan Wesley and Austin Yoller also scored. In the third period, the Queens managed another goal as Hannula setup Kingston Golding who’d snipe but the Peewees ultimately dropped the game 5-2. Brynn Hannula was awarded Game MVP. Friday morning, the Queens took on the Elks 82s. After no goals in the first period, the Elks’ Tyler Rose opened the scoring which the Queens almost immediately got back with Beth Gagnon capitalizing on a play setup by Annie Mallon. The Elks would take the lead back almost immediately though on a goal from Gavin Holowanky and then another from Tyler Rose to make it 3-1 after two for the Elks. In the third, Nathan Hoogsteen and Nate Girvin’s markers increased the Elks lead to 5-1. Brynn Hannula would assist on a Kingston Goulding goal as the Queens lost a second game by a 5-2 score. Game MVP went to Beth Gagnon

Meanwhile, the Bantam As began their Robins Tournament with a game against the Westfort Rangers. Paige Fucile scored first to give the Queens a lead but it was quickly erased on goals from Anthony Sgambelluri and Lucas Garatti. Garatti scored again for the Rangers along with Ben Keeler to make it 4-1 Rangers. Fucile looked to get her team back into it starting a play Victoria Posselwhite who’d setup Grace Fitzpatrick for the goal to cut the lead to two but it’d be as close as they’d come as the 4-2 lead held through the third. Paige Fucile was given Game MVP honours for her team.

Next up for both teams was a Friday evening start against each other! The Peewee Queens versus the Bantam A Queens - both looking for their first win of the tournament. The Bantam As drew first blood as Paige Fucile and Grace Fitzpatrick worked the puck to Taylor MacLean who’d bury the biscuit. 1-0 Bantam A Queens. Before the period would expire however, Kingston Golding notched her 3rd goal in as many games with 14 seconds left in the first. The second period would see no more goals. A penalty-free affair up to this point, the Bantam As found themselves having to kill off 6 minutes of calls. The Peewees nearly went without drawing the officials ire but took a penalty with 2:02 remaining to put the Bantam As on the powerplay to end the game but they also managed to kill it off, skating to a 1-1 draw. For the Strasser & Lang Peewee Queens, they named Emma Darosa as their Game MVP while the Bantam A Queens chose goalie Lily Lingner to give top honours to as Game MVP.

Tomorrow, the Peewee Queens will take on the Westfort Rangers Peewee AA at 5:45pm in their sole game. The Bantam As will get up early for a 9:00am start against KC and then battle the Elks 82s at 4:30pm.
