Bantam AA Queens More Impressive than record at St Luke’s Icebreaker

DULUTH, MN — After their thrilling shootout win over Hermantown Mirage, the Bantam AA Queens took on Woodbury for an opportunity to play in the semifinals. It wouldn’t be nearly the tightly contested game that their first was as the Bantam AAs defeated Woodbury 12-0. Among the highlights in the game was an 8-point night for #8 Joanna Martinsen (4-goals, 4-assists) , and 3 point performances from Bridget Cameron, Ella Mannila, Riah Compardo and Ava Hrubeniuk. Goalie Abby Wills earned the shutout.

Saturday night, the Bantam AAs faced the #1 ranked team in Minnesota, the Edina Hornets. The Queens opened the scoring and led most of the way but in the last 1:30, Edina tied it up at one. No one scored in overtime so it went to the shootout. Rhae Thomas scored the only goal for the Bantam AA Queens while Edina notched two goals to win in the shootout. The Queens outshot Edina 30-24. Close game.

So with that, the Bantam AA Queens took on the 4th ranked team in Minnesota, Wayzata, for third place. First period, no goals. Second period, still no goals. In the third period, the Queens got on the game sheet in the form of a penalty, which they'd successfully kill off but no goals scored in regulation. The game went to overtime where the contest still couldn't be decided, so it went to a shootout where unfortunately the Queens did end up getting edged out, losing to Wayzata.

Overall though, the Bantam AA Queens leave the tournament with a very solid record, not losing a single game in regulation (two Shootout loses) and only allowing 3 goals in 4 games during regular play, they were easily a top team.
