Gridlink Midget A Queens Reach Semis at Chicago Girls Winter Classic

CHICAGO, IL — After two shutout wins on Saturday, the Gridlink Midget A Queens met up with the San Diego Jr Gulls on Sunday morning. After a scoreless first, San Diego would finally put the first goal of the weekend past the Queens but Victoria Arnone would score the equalizer shortly after on a play from Julia Buchan. 1-1 after two. In the second, Mikaela Chimbakis put the Queens on top (assist to Bria Filice) but the Jr Gulls tied it back up about 5-minutes after that in what ended up as a 2-2 tie.

With no losses on their record, the Queens were put up against the Sturgeon Heights Huskies Sunday afternoon with a shot at going to the semis on the line. Bria Filice had a big opening period, assisting on goals by Emma Johnston and Mikaela Chimbakis to give the Queens an early 2-goal lead. Camryn Williams held the Huskies scoreless through two but they’d get on the board late in the third, cutting the lead to one but it’d be as close as they got, giving the Queens a 2-1 win and a birth in the semi-finals against the K-Stars on Monday morning.
