Gridlink Midget A Queens Win Silver Final at Chicago Girls Winter Classic

CHICAGO, IL — With a 3-0-1 record, the Gridlink Midget A Queens found themselves in a Gold Semi-Final game at the Chicago Girls Winter Classic against the K-Stars. The K-Stars would score once in the first, twice in the second, and once more in the third and didn’t allow any against, shutting out the Queens 4-0.

While not being in the Gold Final, the Queens had played well enough to make it to the Silver Final against the Omaha Lady Lancers, who had a 4-1 record coming into this game. Omaha had a great start, outshooting the Queens 10-5 in the opening period but goalie Camryn Williams was equal to the task, keeping the game at 0-0 after one. In the second, the Lady Lancers continued tilting the ice, doubling up the Queens in shots again but Williams did not relent. Finally in the third period, the Gridlink Queens turned it on and started doubling Omaha’s shots and it paid off as Emma Johnston scored on the powerplay, putting the Queens up 1-0. Omaha pulled their goalie late for the extra attacked but Johnston would score again, clinching the victory. Camryn Williams stopped all 20 shots, leading the Queens to win the Silver Final.

The Queens leave Chicago with a stellar 4-1-1 record, outscoring their opponents 11-7, including 3 shutouts.
