Strasser & Lang Peewee Queens Fight for Playoff Birth at Cupid Classic

BLOOMINGTON, MN — After a tough 7-4 loss, the Strasser & Lang Peewee Queens played a couple games Saturday at the Cupid Classic.

Saturday morning, the Queens looked to get into the win column against Blaine Spring Lake Park. Sydney Ritson would get her side on the board first after setup feed from Karlyn Maguire-Stein – the only goal of the period. A pair of goals by Brynn Hannula, one on the powerplay and one shorthanded, gave the Queens a commanding 3-0 lead (Ritson drew an assist). Blaine came back with a powerplay goal of their own but Beth Gagnon would bury a late goal as Thunder Bay took this one 4-1.

In the afternoon, the Queens would need a win against Rosemount to move into a playoff position. A tie or loss would not do. Which is why when the 0-0 tie held through to the end of the game, the Queens pulled their goalie for the extra attacker to go for the win. Unfortunately the tactic wouldn’t work, Rosemount would sink the empty netter, winning 1-0.

Sunday will see the Peewee Queens play a “friendship game” before heading home.
