Sportop Midget AA Queens Open up Female World Sport School Challenge

WINNIPEG, MB — The Sportop Midget AA Queens are in Winnipeg this week competing in the Female World Sport School Challenge. In their opening game, they took on the Edmonton Pandas who opened the scoring early on then added to their lead before Jill Calder would put the Queens on the board after being setup by Alexis Paddington and Jada LeBlanc. Both goalies were perfect in the second leading to a run on goal scoring in the third. The Pandas extended their lead just 39 seconds in on the powerplay before Brenna Nicol would bring it back to within one (Kailey Swerhun and LeBlanc with the assists). Edmonton once again capitalized on the powerplay but Alexis Paddington would close the gap again with a Queens powerplay goal after Nicol and Kendra Fortin would get Alexis the puck in a dangerous spot. Unfortunately for the Queens, they couldn’t find the equalizer. Edmonton takes it 4-3.

With rebounding on the mind, the Queens brought their ‘A’ game against Eastman Selects, jumping out to a quick lead on three goals from Sarah Grieve (assists to Kailey Swerhun and Brenna Nicol), Olivia Cava (from Sibley Duckert and Saige MacLeod), and Alexis Paddington (Gaby Andreacchi and Jill Calder). The second period nearly went goalless if not for Nicol burying an unassisted shorthanded goal. 4-0 after two.

In the third, the goals came in droves again. Paddington notched her second goal, as well as her hat trick goal as part of a 4-point game. Jill Calder also sniped twice in her 4-point effort. Gaby Andreacchi lead the Queens also with 3 primary assists. While given plenty of run support, goalie Mykaila George worked for her shutout, turning aside 24 shots in the 8-0 drubbing.
