U18A Halfway Motors Queens Opens Weekend Loop with a “W”

The U18A Halfway Motors Queens plays first game of a 3-dayweekend loop against Confederation College. After a scoreless first period, the second period would not be the same.  Grace Fitzpatrick opened the scoring for the Queens early in the second period with Paige Fucile and Sidney Lightbody claiming the assists.  Twenty-three seconds later Shaiyln Reguly made an on the stick pass to Amanda Valente who found the back of the net.  Confederation College’s Brooke Herman would rebound back halfway through the second to cut the lead in half.  Just over a minute later, Reguly would restore the two-goal lead with Valente getting the assist. Confederation College’s Lauryn Loyerwould rally back to cut the Queens lead to one.  With nine seconds left in the second, Fitzpatrick would net her second goal of the game with Paige Broughton and Cayla Wesley assisting. The score was 4-2 at the end of the second period.

Confederation College came out hungry after the ice clean between 2nd and 3rd periods. A goal from Haley Wrigley and a deflection goal by Brooke Herman would tie the game up for the College.  With just under 2 minutes left in the game, Julia Moro would get the game winner with helpers from Valente and Rayne Bechard.  In the last minute of play, Confederation College would have a powerplay opportunity where Ria Slomke would close the door to secure the win.  Final score was 5-4.

More weekend series play to come Saturday and Sunday at Fort William First Nation Arena with Dryden’s U18 team and U21 Queens.
