The Thunder Bay U18AA Sportop Queens entered day two of the Stoney Creek Showcase looking to take over first place in their pool. Their first game Saturday morning was against the Waterloo Ravens. After an unexpected delayed start, the Queens had a slow start to begin the game and relied on goaltender Abby Wills to make some key saves early to end the first period scoreless. Shots favoured Waterloo 10-9.

Makenzee Kostiuk opened the scoring with just over a minute remaining in the second period off a nifty cross ice feed from Katy Lacosse to give the Queens a 1-0 lead. Avery Olenik picked up the other helper on the goal. Second period shots favoured the Queens 5-4.

The third period was all Queens as they peppered the Waterloo goalie with countless great scoring chances. Bridget Cameron would seal the 2-0 victory at the 12:15 mark of the third period with a beautiful individual effort to beat the goaltender just under the cross bar. Final shots favoured the Queens 24-16.

The team looks to continue their stellar defensive play in their final round robin game at 4:45 today against Ottawa and will need a victory to clinch first place in their pool and move on to championship Sunday.
