The Thunder Bay U18AA Sportop Queens played their final round robin game of the Stoney Creek Showcase against the Ottawa Jr. 67’s, needing a win to move on to the quarter-finals of the 56 team tournament.

The teams traded scoring chances over the first two periods, but the game remained scoreless. Again the 3rd period was a big one for the Queens, and that’s when they took over. It started with a relentless forecheck by Emma Firth at 10:24 of the 3rd period which led to a turnover inside the blue line and Jenna Jackson making no mistake firing a wrist shot under the blocker to give her team a 1-0 lead. Firth and Bridget Cameron would add helpers on the goal. 56 seconds later on the power play, Avery Olenik and Brooklyn Voortman created a nifty passing play off of their cycle and Olenik would make no mistake beating the goalie high over the glove for a 2-0 lead. Finally, with just under 5 minutes to play, Katy Lacosse would display great poise and patience walking out of the corner and beating the goalie short side for the insurance marker.

Alexandra Young was once again solid in net turning away all 17 shots for the shutout.  The Queens goalie tandem remain unbeaten in the tournament.

With the win, the Queens have advanced as one of the top 8 teams and will now have a quarterfinal matchup with the reigning National Champion Durham West Lightning.
