OPG Queens Win CAN/AM Challenge in International Falls

Oct. 29 -- The Thunder Bay Ontario Power Generation midget A Queens have returned home from the CAN/AM Challenge in International Falls, Minn., posting three straight shutouts en route to capturing the title.

Opening up Friday against the host Rainy River College, Thunder Bay got a pair of goals by Jacqueline Desimone as part of a 6-0 triumph.

Whitney Scott, Taylor Basaraba, Lexxi Saarinen and Jessica Minoletti notched the other markers in the victory.

Taking to the ice Saturday the Queens went on to blank the Winnipeg Predators by a 2-0 score with Marielle Orr and Kristin Martin supplying the goals.

Wrapping up the tourney Sunday Thunder Bay got tallies from Sarah Doyle, Martin, Scott and Saarinen as they defeated Minot State University of North Dakota by a 4-0 margin.

Turning in perfect shutout goaltending for the Queens over the weekend was the tandem of Allanah Dzijacky and Natasha Lyons.

The OPG Queens will now gear up to attend the Ice Breaker Cup tournament in Sault Ste. Marie this weekend where they go in as defending champions.

Thunder Bay takes on the host Sault Ste. Marie Wildcats Friday at 5:30 p.m. in their opener.
