First Class Gas BAA and Sportop MAA Queens’ clubs off to tournaments

THUNDER BAY -- The Thunder Bay Queens will be sending a pair of teams off to tournaments this weekend as the First Class Gas bantam AA side heads to Windsor to compete in the sixth annual Hocktoberfest International Female Hockey Festival while the Sportop midget AA squad will be in Blaine, Minn., taking part in the Upper Midwest Elite League's CCM National Invitational Tournament.

A total of nine teams will be vying for the title in the bantam AA division in Windsor with the Kitchener Lady Rangers providing the opposition in the Queens’ first game, which goes Friday morning at 10:35 a.m.

The host Windsor Wildcats will be on tap for Thunder Bay later in the day as the two sides have a 6:05 p.m. face-off.

Saturday then has the FCG Queens tangling with Team Detroit – Belle Tire at 8:30 a.m.

A quarter-final contest then awaits the team at either 7:45 p.m. or 9 p.m. Saturday.

The winner of that game will then advance to the semifinals on Sunday morning with the victors there advancing to the championship at 1:05 p.m. that afternoon.

Meanwhile the Sportop midget AAs take to the ice at 2:30 p.m. CT Friday in their opener vs. Minnesota Elite White.

Two more tilts are on the docket Saturday at they meet Minnesota Senior Black at 9:55 a.m. CT followed by a 3:40 p.m. CT encounter against Team Wisconsin U-16.

Their final game at the eight-team event goes Sunday against a yet to be determined opponent.
