Norcan Tours Queens open with shutout victory in North Bay

NORTH BAY --
The Thunder Bay Norcan Tours and Travel midget A Queens are off to a good start at the OK Tire Blue Sky Classic in North Bay.

Thunder Bay opened up play Friday afternoon and rode the shutout goaltending of Sydney Horst in blanking the Sudbury Lady Wolves by a 2-0 score.

In the opener, the game was scoreless through two periods of play, before the Queens’ Whitney Scott notched the eventual game-winner in the final frame with 10:43 remaining.

Mikayla Sparks added an insurance marker with three minutes to go to seal the win.

Horst finished with 16 saves overall in earning the triumph in the club’s first tournament game of the season.

The Queens return to game action Friday evening at 8:15 p.m. when they take on the host North Bay Ice Boltz at 8:15 p.m.

The Ice Bolts dropped a 5-2 decision to the Nepean Wildcats in their opening match-up.

They will then skate in their final round robin contest will be the Timmins Falcons in a game that is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Saturday.

Remaining match-ups after that will be determined on the results of their first three contests.

A total of six teams make up the midget A division in the tourney, which also features Nepean and the Bluewater Hawks from Strathroy, Ont.
