Norcan Tours Queens semifinal bound in North Bay

NORTH BAY – The Thunder Bay Norcan Tours and Travel midget A Queens are off to the semifinals of the OK Tire Blue Sky Classic in North Bay.

Thunder Bay earned their way to the final four after blanking the Timmins Falcons 4-0 Saturday in their final round robin game, as they improved to 2-0-1 in midget A division play.

Bailey Chenier posted the shutout for the Queens in the victory.

Laura Deschamps’ goal with 3:33 remaining in the opening period proved to be all the offensive production the club would need as she notched the eventual game-winner.

Kristen Martin added another tally in the second to put Thunder Bay up a pair.

Allison Pages then iced it in the final frame by tacking on a pair of markers to round things out.

Michelle Smith dished out a pair of assists to aid in the triumph.

The Queens will now meet the also unbeaten Bluewater Hawks (3-0) of Strathroy, Ont., in one semifinal, which goes Saturday evening at 9:45 p.m.

The winner of that contest will take on whoever comes out on top in the other semi between North Bay and Nepean in Sunday’s championship game at 12:15 p.m.
