Triad Contracting peewee Queens edged in Duluth Jamboree opener
DULUTH, Minn. – The Thunder Bay Triad Contacting peewee Queens dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision to the Brainerd Warriors Saturday morning in game 1 of a four-team jamboree event at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth.
Molly Kunnas opened scoring for the Queens with a shorthanded goal five minutes into the first period.
Brainerd bounced back with tallies 12 seconds apart in the middle frame to grab a 2-1 lead after two periods of play.
They then extended their lead early in the third on netminder Josée Robinson, but MacKenzie Lehto pulled Thunder Bay back to within one with 5:38 remaining finishing off a feed from Kunnas.
That’s as close as the club would come however as time ran out in the narrow setback.
The Queens resume game action at 5:45 p.m. tonight when they meet the Proctor-Hermantown Mirage and will then wrap-up play Sunday vs. the Duluth Icebreakers at 12:30 p.m.
