Busy weekend in store for Queens

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Queens program will have an action-packed weekend in store as three of their teams will be in Blaine, Minn., to compete in the annual All-American Girls tournament while another will be at home for a two-game exhibition series.

The Triad Contracting peewee, Manshield Construction bantam A and First Class Gas bantam AA squads will all be in Minnesota while the Sportop midget AA Queens are hosting the Fort Frances Muskies girls high school team in a pair of contests Saturday.

Both the bantam A and AA sides will be vying for the title in the 12-team under 14A division.

The FCG bantams will be the first to take to the ice as they tangle with the Mountain State Rock Stars of Colorado at 1:45 p.m. CT Friday.

Their second contest goes Saturday at 10:15 a.m. CT Saturday vs. North East Metro United of Minneapolis.

As for the Manshield bantam A, their opener is set for 7 p.m. CT Friday evening against the host Blaine Bengals.

The NWC Riverhawks of St. Michael, Minn., will then provide the opposition at 8:30 a.m. CT Saturday.

Further competition for both sides will then be determined on how they fare in round robin play.

As for the Triad peewees the Anoka Tornadoes U-12’s will be the club’s first test with that match-up going Friday at 8 p.m. CT.

They then have a couple of tilts slated Saturday as they meet the Forest Lake Rangers U-12 at 10:30 a.m. CT followed by a 7:15 p.m. CT encounter with the Mounds View Mustangs.

Rounding out the field in the six-team peewee division are the Orono Spartans and Blaine Bengals U-12 teams.

Their final game at the All-American Girls tourney will be played Sunday at a yet to be determined time.

Meanwhile the Sportop midget AA Queens take on the Muskies of Fort Frances at 10 a.m. Saturday in the opener, which will be played at Fort William First Nation Arena.

The two sides will then wrap-up their two-game set at 3 p.m. at the Thunder Bay Tournament Centre.
