Norcan Tours midget A Queens take 2 of 3 against scholastic competition

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Norcan Tours & Travel midget A Queens had a solid performance on home ice over the weekend as they took two of three games against a trio of scholastic teams.

They began with a 3-1 victory over the Silver Bay Mariners High School girls’ side from Minnesota Saturday and followed that up later that same day by defeating the Lakehead University Thunderwolves club team 2-1 before being blanked by the Fort Frances Muskies High School Sunday by a 3-0 count.

Against Silver Bay Danielle Veneruzzo tallied twice while Mikayla sparks dished out a pair of assists to pace the Queens offensively.

Laura Deschamps notched the other Thunder Bay goal while Bailey Chenier picked up the win in net.

In the contest vs. L.U. the midget A squad rallied from a 1-0 deficit to pull out the come from behind win.

Queens’ alumna Drue Ahola gave the Thunderwolves the lead 3:08 into the final frame only to see Jacqueline Desimone notch the equalizer midway through the stanza.

That set the stage for Sarah Doyle to bury the game-winner with 7:45 to go.

Chenier once again registered the triumph in net for her side.

In their club’s finale Sunday vs. Fort Frances the Muskies struck three times, including one into an empty net, to skate away with the triumph.

Chenier and Brooke Basaraba split duties in net for Thunder Bay in the contest.
