Two more wins sends Sportop Queens to Thoroughbreds tourney semifinal

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Thunder Bay Sportop midget AA Queens are off to the semifinals of the Minnesota Thoroughbreds Thanksgiving tournament in St. Paul, Minn.

Thunder Bay earned a berth in Sunday’s semifinal at 8:30 a.m. vs. Program of Excellence Black from Kelowna, B.C. by virtue of finishing first in their division with a perfect 3-0 round robin record.

Coming off a 6-0 shutout of Team Alaska Friday the Queens carried their solid play to Saturday where they blanked the Peace Country Storm from Alberta 4-0 and followed that up with a 6-2 triumph over the Yellowhead Chiefs from Manitoba.

Against the Storm Jayde Turcotte stopped all 13 shots she faced in the victory to pick-up the win.

Bronwyn Bolduc and Samantha Isbell both tallied twice in the contest while Kaley Tienhaara dished out two assists. Jessica Ricklefs added a solo helper.

In the evening match-up with Yellowhead, Thunder Bay used a well balanced attack getting goals from six different skaters in the triumph.

Tienhaara, Michele Carlson, Bolduc, Farrah Nicholl, Samantha Isbell and Samantha Strassburger all found the back of the net.

Sydney Isbell picked up the win in net for the Queens in the victory over the Chiefs.

Depending on the outcome of the semifinal Thunder Bay will either play in the gold/silver medal game or the bronze medal contest at 1:30 p.m.
