Sportop Queens advance Thoroughbreds tournament final

ST. PAUL, Minn. – A Samantha Strassburger goal early in the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Thunder Bay Sportop midget AA Queens defeat Program of Excellence of Kelowna, B.C. 5-3 in semifinal action at the Minnesota Thoroughbreds Thanksgiving tournament in St. Paul, Minn.

The Queens will now take on the defending tournament champion Shaftesbury Prep Titans of Winnipeg in the title game at 1:30 p.m.

Emily Oleksuk (shorthanded), Michelle Carlson, Alexandra Sawyer (power play) and Bronwyn Bolduc also tallied in the victory while Kaley Tienhaara dished out two assists.

Also picking up helpers were Sawyer, Bolduc, Montana Russo, Farrah Nicholl and Jessica Ricklefs.

Jayde Turcotte made 18 saves to record the win in net for Thunder Bay.
