3 Queens teams in action this weekend

THUNDER BAY – Three of the Thunder Bay Queens hockey teams will be in action this weekend at various locales outside the city and in.

The Tim Hortons bantam A side will be in Buffalo, N.Y., competing in the Harbor Center Cup while the Sportop midget AA squad heads to Winnipeg for a three-game exhibition set vs. a pair of Manitoba prep schools and the peewee Queens take to the ice locally in the annual Norwest Stars tournament.

Friday has the bantam A’s taking to the ice twice in Buffalo as the take on the Hamburg Hawks from New York State at 10 a.m., which will be followed up with a 4:30 p.m. encounter with the Erie Lady Lions.

Saturday’s action has them facing off with the Rochester Edge at 10:55 a.m. before they conclude round robin play with a 2:45 p.m. face-off vs. the Kensington Valley Ravens of Michigan.

As for the Sportop midget AA’s, their initial contest in Winnipeg goes Friday when they meet the Balmoral Hall Blazers at 5:30 p.m.

They’ll then tangle with the St. Mary’s Academy Flames Saturday at 1:30 p.m. before wrapping up the trip Sunday when they meet the Flames once again at 10:40 a.m.

As for the peewee Queens, they’ll be competing in the boys peewee AA division with all their round robin games slated for Fort William First Nation Arena.

Friday’s action has them going up against the Neebing Hawks at 10:45 a.m. before finishing up the day against the Dryden Paper Kings at 7:45 p.m.

The West End Bruins provide the competition in their first contest Saturday at 2 p.m. before they conclude the day with a 6:30 p.m. match-up vs. the host Norwest Stars.

Playoff action in the two tournaments goes Sunday.
