Consolation games await Queens in Minnesota Sunday

BLAINE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay Queens will have to settle for consolation round games Sunday at the 24th annual All-American Girls tournament in Blaine, Minn.

Game action Saturday saw the Tim Hortons bantam A side begin with a 5-0 triumph over the Forest Lake Rangers, but were then thumped 8-0 by another Minnesota club from Rochester, Minn.

As for the peewees Saturday they too were humbled 8-0 by the Andover Huskies before rebounding with a 2-0 triumph over the Duluth Icebreakers.

Bantam A play saw the Queens’ Laura Van Dyk score once and add two assists while Grace Grosjean supplied a pair of marker in the decision over Forest Lake.

Van Dyk and Grosjean put the club up 2-0 after one while Grosjean and Emma Johnston added offensive efforts in the middle session.

Gabriella Andreacchi would round out the scoring for her side in the third.

Marissa Brosseau registered the shutout for the Queens.

Taking on Rochester, their opponents scored four times in the first frame and never looked back in cruising to the victory.

As for the peewees contest against Andover, the Huskies struck for five first period tallies in the one-sided victory.

In the match-up with Duluth, it was scoreless through two before Thunder Bay’s Reese Coffey broke the ice with the eventual game-winner during a power play at 7:01 of the third.

Jerzie Crocker then added some insurance 31 seconds later to round out the scoring.

Mykaila George stopped all 23 shots she faced to post the shutout.

The peewees will meet the Forest Lake Rangers Sunday at 10:35 a.m. while the bantam A squad will tangle with a yet to be determined opponent.
