Midget A Queens semifinal bound in Sudbury

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Thunder Bay Topper’s Pizza midget A Queens are 3-0 and heading to the semifinals Sunday at the Snowflake Challenge tournament in Sudbury.

Thunder Bay wrapped up round robin play Saturday with a 2-0 triumph over the North Bay Ice Boltz.

In the match-up with North Bay, the Queens scored twice in the second period to secure the victory.

MacKenzie Lehto notched the eventual game-winner with 3:45 left in the frame while Hanna Whalen added some insurance with just eight seconds left in the session.

Breanna Veneruz dished out two assists to aid Thunder Bay’s offensive cause while Brooke Herman and Caitlin Olinksi added additional helpers.

Anjelina Badanai posted the shutout.

The Queens will now meet the Timmins Falcons Sunday morning at 10 a.m. with the winner of that contest advancing to the championship game at 3:15 p.m.
