Bantam AA Queens advance to Super Chill semifinal; peewees to play for 5th

BLAINE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay bantam AA  Queens are off to the semifinals at the Centennial Super Chill tournament in Blaine, Minn.

Thunder Bay improved to 3-0 after round robin competition after blanking the Cottage Park Wolf Pack 6-0 before going on to shutout the host Centennial Cougars 3-0 Saturday.

The will now take on the Blaine Bengals in semifinal play Sunday at 9:45 a.m. with the winner earning a berth in the championship game at 6:30 p.m. vs. either Edina Green or Centennial.

In the triumph over Cottage Grove, Sarah Grieve led the Queens offensively two goals while Caitlyn McGuire, Kendra Fortin, Alexis Paddington and Kayla Stein supplied singles.

Posting the shutout was Camryn Williams.

Against Centennial, Sydney White blasted home a shot from the point during a power play late in the first period to open the scoring.

The Cougars pressed the pace in the middle stanza outshooting the Queens 10-6, but netminder Lindsay Humeniuk kept them off the board.

Buoyed by the strong play of their goaltender, Thunder Bay upped their late in the session as Bella Carangi stepped into a point shot to put the Queens up by two.

Paddington then secured the win in third as she finished off a nice feed from Fortin to round out the scoring.

Humeniuk would go on to stop all 16 shots faced to record her second shutout in as many starts at the event.

As for the peewee Queens, who are also competing in the Super Chill, they dropped a pair of decisions Saturday falling 2-0 to the North Wright County Riverhawks and 3-1 to the host Cougars.

They’ll wrap up competition Sunday against the Osseo-Maple Grove Orioles at 1:45 p.m.
