Queens Heating up at IceBreaker

DULUTH, MN — The Peewee Queens suffered a loss against the top ranked Edina Hornets in their first game at the Duluth Icebreakers Tourney. The game remained close with Edina clinging to a 1-0 lead after two periods. However the Hornets blew it open in the 3rd period with two power play goals to make the final 4-0. Shots on goal favored Edina 19-13. The Peewees would rebound Saturday morning however with a 4-0 win of their own over Elk River with Alexis Prepp and Avery Olenik picking up a goal each and Kaiya Kamande potting two. In their afternoon game, Ella Mannila opened the scoring and Kamande broke the 1-1 tie in the third period with Joanna Martinsen notching the insurance marker as the Peewee Queens skated to a 3-1 win over Eden Prairie. Their 2-1 record puts the Peewees int other ethnicities Silver Consolation Championship against Woodbury Sunday at 12:15 pm.

The Bantam AA Queens found themselves on the wrong side of two one-goal games against Proctor/Hermantown (5-4 loss on Friday afternoon) and the Madison Capitals (2-1 Saturday night) but did manage to eek out an exciting 2-1 overtime win over Minnetonka. Kendra Fortin tied the game in the third period after trailing since the first and Gabriella Andreacchi would play the roll of overtime hero scoring with just 39 seconds left in the extra frame. The Bantam AAs play Duluth Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm for 7th place.

And over in the 10U-A division, the GridLink Atom Queens go undefeated into Sunday picking up a 3-2 win over Eden Prairie Saturday morning and bouncing Elk River 5-2 that evening. The Atoms will meet Andover at 8:00 am Sunday morning in the semi-finals. A win will put them in the Gold Final Championship, a loss will have them battling for bronze.
