Midget A, AA Queens Enjoy Competition at CCM Showcase

BLAINE, MN — The Midget A and Midget AA Queens finished up their weekend in Blaine, Minnesota at the CCM National Invitational Showcase with one game each.

While they went 0-3 through their first 3 games, getting outscored 15-1, the Gridlink Midget A Queens welcomed the stiffer AAA level competition. “Even though we were playing a level up, we were definitely competitive in our games” said Defenceman, Julia Buchan “Our goalies played well and our team improved as the weekend went on. It was a tough series, but we will use the experience to get better.” The Midget As would be encouraged by they final game, dropping a 4-2 decision in the Milwaukee Admirals.

Meanwhile, the Sportop Midget AA Queens found themselves an a trio of tight games, winning one 3-2, losing one 3-2 and tying one 3-3. “The whole field was tight.” Explained Assistant Coach, Natalie Vibert “Out of the 16 teams in the National Division I think only two were 4-0 on the weekend.” The Midget AAs put their 1-1-1 record up against Team North Colorado U19. Late in the first, a pair of goals, both scored by Molly Kunnas and assisted by Alexis Paddington put the Queens up 2-0. A wild 4-goal second period would put the Queens out of reach with goals from Victoria DarosaJocelyn Wojciechowski and a pair from Lucy Newman. The 6-0 lead would hold as Josée Robinson shutout Northern Colorado. “Everyone was fast and could move the puck hard and shoot the puck.” told Midget AA Queens Defence, Kendra Fortin "Our team did really well overall especially being down one great player but we definitely dominated for majority of all 4 games. We also were very happy to end the weekend with a win.”
