Midget A, AA Queens to Clash at Con College Tournament

THUNDER BAY, ON — The Sportop Midget AA Queens continued their goalscoring feast at the Confederation College Invitational Tournament starting with a 9-0 win over the host Confederation College Thunderhawks. Alexis Paddington led all scorers with 2 goals and 3 assists, Jamie Ricklefs had a pair of goals with an assist and Game MVP, Brynne Lambert, had a goal and two helpers. The Midget AAs would get their second shutout of the day playing against the Thunder Bay Fury. Jessie Scott and Jocelyn Wojciechowski both scored in the first and Paddington and Molly Kunnas potted goals in the third in a 4-0 victory.

Meanwhile, the Gridlink Midget A Queens drew stiff competition from the St. Thomas Saints. Olivia Nicholl and Hanna Leung opened the scoring in the first period to put the Queens out in front 2-0. St Thomas scored two unanswered goals in the second to tie it up. In the third, Sarah Grieve on a setup from Leung and Syndie Crocker would give the Queens the lead but it would evaporate within a minute as the Saints would again draw even. No more goals would be allowed as the game closed with a 3-3 tie. In their evening game, the Midget As met up with the LU Thunderwolves. Each side would exchange goals in the second with Gaby Andreacchi tying the game at one. Late in the second, however, the Thunderwolves potted a couple more putting them up 3-1.

Sunday morning, the Midget A Queens will meet the Manitoba Blaze and the Midget AAs will take on the LU Thunderwolves. The winner of both games will meet in the finals at noon.
